A proper noun is a name of a person or place. Eg: James, Perth, Jenny, Afghanistan, Iraq.

An improper noun is the name of an object or thing, and is more commonly used than a proper noun. Eg: box, card, pen, paper, rifle.

Are you kidding???? When did we rewrite English nomenclature to include "improper" nouns???? Are these nouns 'out-of-line' in their actions or being, so that they are "improper"? The correct term is "common" nouns, which means the names of common items, not special, exclusively named items or persons, i.e., table versus King Arthur's Round Table, etc., etc.

Hi, it is important to know that improper noun was taught in grade school back in the 70's, I still have my text book, and one of the issues we are having in today's English is there's too much modifying, to modify, meaning to change the nouns is confusing, when you think you using the noun one way, then here comes the language change, i.e., the word black is an adjective, now it is a noun, so if the word black is descriptive for common nouns, so is a common noun the proper noun, yes so who rewrite the English to constantly change the part of speech.

Arline, you are absolutely correct. The term 'improper noun' is not correct and is not taught in any English school. Kemitu, I am sorry but your grammar, sentence structure and use of the apostrophe is incorrect. Whichever textbook you refer to could not have been written by anyone with a true understanding of the English language.

IMPROPER NOUNS, are commonly known by THE WORLD to be symbolization of a LIE. I cannot say that all caps is a Word though because there is no such Thing in any Dictionary of The English language as any Word of any sort, noun nor verb or any other thing that exists in said Dictionaries,,
You can find an IMPROPER NOUN in your wallet and forehead though just look at your ID or other Plastic you have and see if it does not Identify you as a Fiction of Law, a feigned word declaring that you as an individual have absolutely No Standing in Judicia as you are Living a Lie.
